When a car is driven, the engine will generates so much heat. Because of this, your car is require a cooling system to protect against damage and keep the engine cool within the operating temperature range.

The radiator, an integral part of the cooling system which designed to protect the engine from the destructive forces of extremely high heat. The radiator function is to lower the temperature of hot coolant coming from the engine and by cooling the air that passes through the radiator. A radiator is constructed with two keys components: Core made up of small flat tubes, and overflow tanks which are either on the top or bottom of the core . Some of it on the sides.

How to detect a problem for your radiator:

Car Radiator Emergency Repair

Your car radiator is the primary cooling system for your engine. If it fails, your car will overheat and need to be repaired. There are several common ways for car radiator failure:

  1. A small leak has run your car’s radiator dry
  2. A cracked or broken radiator housing
  3. Split or broken radiator hose
  4. Damage to the cooling core of the car radiator

When your car has a radiator problem, Usually you will take it to the closet mechanic for repairing without any worry. However, you are in the middle of nowhere. With a basic toolbox, you can often repair the car radiator and get yourself safely to the service station in an emergency situation.

What if you are far away from civilization and your car is overheating. Go take a close look at your radiator and cooling system. See if you can find any problem. Most cars' radiators are pretty easy to access with a screwdriver and a crescent wrench.

Check and quick repair damaged Core:
When repair a damaged car radiator core, remove the radiator and locate the broken section. Use a pair of pliers to crimp or fold the sections of the core surrounding the damage area. If you have quick-set epoxy or muffler cement, allow the damaged section to dry thoroughly and then patch the leaks over. If you are able to slow the leak without disabling radiator, you should able to get to a service station.

Repair split or broken Hose with tape:
When coolant hose is simply split, repair it with any heat resistant, waterproof materials that you have inside the car. Heavy-duty tape will work if wrapped tight enough (Don't use any electrical tape, it will not work).

A broken hose is very often to be seen. What you need to find is something that can bridge the broken part and will fits snugly inside the hose. A film can is what you need. Insert the improvised tube, push it back together, and fasten it together as firmly as you can.

Cracked hose:
A cracked or broke hose in the car radiator is a major problem and there is no way to repair it. Basically, follow the "Repair split".  

When the tank is getting empty:
When a slow leak happen, it  means that you have to keep topping up the fluid level until you get to the car radiator repair shop. Water will work if you don’t have any coolant when happened.

 

How to remove your radiator:

Removing the radiator is a very simple. To begin, you should prepare the proper tools: several screwdrivers, a small crescent wrench, a socket set, and a bucket.

Coolant is low Temperature warning light is on Check coolant level. Fill up to proper level with coolant
Sludge or rust around the cap of the radiator Sludge or rust visible around the radiator cap, engine became overheated. Clean the radiator with the proper cleaner. If your car is more than 5 years, you may need to check or replace it.
Temperature is not normal when running It take so much time to heat up, When the heater is on, the air is cold. Check the thermostat. Replace if needed.
